Our Boat

Isola Naida is our home on the water – a ketch-rigged Reliance 44, designed by Pierre Meunier and constructed in 1982. With her solid construction, classic lines, and warm mahogany interior, she’s ideally suited for extended cruising and life aboard.

Ownership History

1982 – Ulrich Hochwald

Hochwald had the interior of Isola Naida completed with rich mahogany finishes throughout, giving Isola Naida her timeless warmth. She was registered by Ulrich as Isola Naida with her home port being St. John’s, Newfoundland.

1993 – Carrol and Johanna Redden

The Reddens cared for her over 15 years, undertaking major upgrades including new chainplates and a rebuilt electrical system. The Reddens cruised Isola Naida throughout the Gulf of St. Lawrence while they were living in St. John’s Newfoundland. They moved to Nova Scotia in 1996 and continued to cruise the coast of Nova Scotia.

2020 – Fred Eidt and Muna ar-Rushdi

Fred and Muna continued Isola Naida’s mechanical upgrades including a re-power with a 2008 4JH4-E Yanmar motor, Raymarine navigation and auto-helm, and multiple quality of life upgrades. Fred and Muna achieved their goal of sailing Isola Naida to the Carribean. As they were prepaed to cross the Atlantic, they came across Kamia Chora, a 1983 Transpac 49 for sale. They decided to sell Isola Naida and delay their Atlantic crossing as they readied Kamia Chora instead.

2025 – Bernard Flynn and Noelle Peach

That’s us. We purchased Isola Naida with long-term plans to liveaboard and eventually cross the Atlantic, exploring Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
